Gurzuf is very popular among the Crimean resorts as one of fine pearls in a sparkling necklace of the resorts of Crimea. First of all Gurzuf is attractive for tourists because of an unforgettable tender sea and a curative subtropical climate. Gurzuf is located on the southern coast of Crimea near to the Mountain Ayu-Dag (The Bear Mountain), in 15 km. to the northeast from Yalta. From the north Gurzuf is protected from cold winds by Crimean Mountains. From the south it is washed by waters of the Black Sea. In one kilometer to the east, directly above Gurzuf the well-known "Arbor of Winds" is situated. The magnificent sea view opening in good weather from it, shows up to 150 km of water smooth surface (distance from here up to Turkey is a little more than 300 km). Great many kinds of plants, including subtropical ones grow in this blessed climate on the fertile soils of the Gurzufskaya Valley. The climate of Gurzuf differs in softness and very warm summer. It is enough to mention, that Gurzuf had been chosen as a place for the well-known children's camp "Artek".In this small village there is the most valuable for health climate in the territory of all former USSR. The slopes of Gurzuf are covered with wood, therefore the air here is especially pure and transparent. The average temperature of January here is nearby +4 C, but there are also excellent sunny days up to +18-20 C. Summer in Gurzuf is hot and sunny. The average temperature of July is +24 C, and in August can reach up to +40 C, but the heat is withstood easily because of the air dryness. The relative air humidity in Gurzuf is not high and varies within the limits of 65-80 %. 
Nobody will be left indifferent by the beauty of the Gurzuf's nature. The Genoa Rock with ruins of ancient Gorzuvity Fortress rises in the center of the spacious valley. There is a big supervision tunnel punched in the rock in Middle Ages. Gurzuf is surrounded from all its sides by vineyards on which "Massandra's" muscats ripen. Here is the only place in Crimea where grapes for making the best in the world a dessert drink of Red Stone's white Muscat, grows. The nature of the Gurzufskaya Valley is unique and reserved. For this reason for its protection "The Yalta Mountain Wood Reserve”, "The Martyan Cape" Natural Reserve, "The Ayu-Dag" Reserve, "The State Reserved Hunting Farm of Crimea" are created here. There are a lot of quails, pheasants, fibers, hares, deers, roes, moufflons (it is a unique population of moufflons in Ukraine, living in natural conditions). Duration of solar light in Gurzuf much more exceeds the level in Nice and Sochi. Here are 318 sunny days in a year. Air in Gurzuf is unusually pure. Breezes bring a curative sea-air in the afternoon, but cool air of mountain woods prevails here in the evening. 
Waters of the Black Sea at the coast of Gurzuf are extremely transparent and pure. They have medical properties because of contenting iodine and sea salts. The temperature of the sea water at Gurzuf's coast is up to +24-26 C in summer and is not below +6-8 C in winter. The swimming season begins in May and proceeds until October. One of the main treasures of the Gurzufskaya Valley is 12 kilometers of the coastal line of "the most dark blue in the world" Black Sea. Besides of inexpressible blue, the Black Sea has also one more feature consisting in its low salinity which is twice less than in the ocean water, so swimming here is more comfortable than, for example, in the Mediterranean Sea. The swimming season, we mean the time with constant temperature of the sea water from +18 degrees and above, lasts in Gurzuf six months from May till October. |
